Circus World Museum: Baraboo, WI

Our second stop of the day was the Circus World Museum.  The Ringling Brothers Circus was founded here in Baraboo, WI in 1884.  It is a National Historic Site and houses what may be the largest collection of circus memorabilia in the world.
When we first drove up, I was a little worried.  The place looked abandoned.
It turns out that it is just a really large park and you can't really understand the awesomeness until you get inside.
One of my favorite things about the place?  The garbage cans.
There were clown and pelican cans too!

Some of the exhibits included a gallery of famous circus people, including the fat lady.  We enjoyed the railroad circus wagon collection.

The shows here were great. Better than expected.  We went to the Tiger Adventure first. An animal trainer basically just talks about how he trains the tigers and answers any questions about them. Todd made Maddie ask the trainer if a tiger and a lion could have babies. She actually phased the question, "Could...If...Well...If a tiger and a lion got married, could they have babies?" The guy talked to her about Liger and Tigons and I was mortified. Ah, the memories. The One Ring Circus was so cool. It is something you just have to go and see. There were so many different acts, from the trained elephants to the spanish web. Tons of amazing acrobats, including a woman who climbed a pole that was balancing on a guys head and ten proceeded to spin around and around from it by her hair. You heard me right.  The magic show was fun also.
After the shows, the kids got to ride and elephant.

We loved Circus World!  I would take the kids here again for sure.
Know before you go:  Make sure you check their website which lists the times of the shows.
They are set up so that you can go to one right after the other.
I didn't realize this, so I had just planned to arrive in time for the tiger show that Maddie wanted to see.  We missed the KidsWorld Interactive Circus show that sounds pretty fun.
You can spend a lot of time here if your kids are into it, so plan accordingly.
