Jewel Cave National Monument: Custer, SD

Here are the kids, with their head lamps on, waiting for our tour of Jewel Cave.

Jewel Cave is currently the second longest cave in the world with about 145 miles of mapped passageways.  It was named for the calcite crystal formations that lined the cavern of the original entrance.

Check out the picture of the "cave bacon".  Todd started getting hungry after he saw that.

The kids enjoyed exploring the cave.  They were sworn in as Junior Rangers afterwards.
Max cuddling his badge.  He has had a hard time being respectful when we go through the swearing in process.  He wants to be funny and make jokes when he is supposed to giving his oath.  Some rangers think he is funny.  Some don't.
