Grandfather Tree and The One Log House: Piercy, CA

My dad always likes to lead us on a hike to Look Out Point, and then down his secret trail to the Grandfather Tree and the Famous One Log House.
The kids enjoyed climbing across the fallen giants.

Look-Out Point isn't much of a look out anymore.

Max at the end of the trail.
We continued to the right and down a gravelly steep hill that leads to the old Hartsook Inn. Here are the kids resting there. Across the street (Hwy 101) are the Grandfather Tree and One Log House.

The Grandfather Tree is world famous. It stretches 245 feet tall with one of the largest tree trunks, 55 feet in circumference, on the Redwood Highway.

The Famous One Log House was crafted in 1946 from a 2100 year old redwood. This section of wood weighed 42 tons and took 8 months of labor to hollow out. The room is 7' high and 32' long. It has living, dining, and bedroom areas. With wheels attached, it toured the United States in its early years.

I like the gift shop by the One Log House. It's also a nice place to grab a cold drink after hiking.
